7 Things Every Adult Should Have in Their Home
Since you’re no longer in college, you have your own space. It’s time your home reflected that. Gone are the days of mismatched pots and pans and silverware. It’s time to put your big girl (or boy) pants on and get the basics that every adult should have in their home.
Your home is a reflection of you. Nobody has it all together, but upgrading up your home is a step in the right direction to looking like you have it together. Start simple with these 7 items.
1. Bed Sheets
You work hard and you deserve to have a place of refuge every night that you call your own. Your bedroom is your personal sanctuary. Comfortable sheets are a must!
The 300 Thread-Count Organic Cotton Solid Sheet Set from Target is the perfect starter set to upgrade your bedroom
The Brooklinen’s Luxury Sheet Set is described as “ a buttery-smooth sateen” and stay cool through the night
2. Coasters
Every adult should have coasters to protect their precious furniture. Rings around the coffee table is not a look you want. A few we love:
These Square Slate Coasters are sturdy and their textured edge give them a personality
3. Something Vintage
Vintage pottery is a great look! It’s a way to add personality and depth to your home. If you’re looking for vintage items, check out flea markets and here are a few websites you can buy the vintage look:
Wooden bowls and spoons are also the perfect addition to your kitchen and home.
4. Original piece of art
Throughout the years I have collected original art. There is nothing like owning original art in your home. I get more compliments on the artwork in my home than any other thing. People notice it and it gives your home a high end feel.
If you need a place to start, Holly Addi has amazing art you can sift through.
If you cant afford the high end pieces, support an artist on Etsy and purchase their digital prints.
Just getting art on your walls in your home can make a world of difference. For example, this Line Art from MelloiArtPrints comes as a digital print, you can do as you please with it for a lower price.
5. Real Plants
Nothing brings a space to life, like live plants. Not only are they beautiful to look at they act as natural air purifiers. Check out your local nursery. We love to support local, our favorite plant shop is Cactus and Topicals in Salt Lake.
Here are a few pots we love:
6. Nice Bath Towels
As soon as I graduated college and got my first pay check, I bought nice towels. Get rid of your mismatched beach towels, and invest in some lux towels for your guests to enjoy as well.
7. Quality Set of Pots and Pans
It wasn’t until recently that I said goodbye to my old set of pans and purchased a nice set of stainless steel. It took a few try’s to learn how to cook with them, and once I stopped burning I was sold. They cook evenly and are beautiful. I am also not embarrassed when I have a dinner party and want to show off my skills.
Investing in your home and creating a space for you to thrive in is so important. What was your first purchase you made for your first home? Was it a nice set of pans or a throw? Let us know in the comments below !
