What Is a Digital Flat Panel?

You’ve probably seen digital flat panels all over, especially in restaurants. They’re similar to your television at home, but made for commercial use. These digital flat panels display menus, options, and information for a commercial building.

With our current project with Granite Credit Union, we’re using a digital panel in the design, When the project is finished, Granite Credit Union can use this digital panel to show advertising videos and photos.

Why Use a Digital Flat Panel And Not A Normal Television?

Screen Quality

Commercial grade screens have specialized glass to reduce glare. The glass and special technology in the screen also increases the brightness and display quality. Consumer televisions have anywhere between 150-250 Nits (brightness scale), and commercial grade screens range anywhere between 300-2000 Nits. The brighter the area you are putting the screen in, the higher amount of Nits you need to help the visual stay clear. As a business you want your branding and marketing materials to be visible wherever you put the panel. It is important to choose the right product for the right application.

When you use a residential grade screen in a commercial application, it could completely void your warranty. Or at the very least, decrease it drastically, some from 1 year down to 30 days depending on the manufacturer. Consumer televisions are not made to run for long periods of time, and will wear out drastically if on for business hours. Commercial televisions are made with extra fans in them, to maximize the longevity of the screen. Less heat means less damage. Even though commercial grade might cost a little more right out the gate, it will pay off in the long run.

The larger the viewing range, the more people that are able to see your marketing material, and will help increase your business. The viewing range of residential televisions is minimal compared to the viewing range of commercial grade panels. If you want to maximize viewing range, commercial panels are the best option for your business.

Bezel Size

The bezel is the trim that surrounds the screen. Traditionally residential televisions have a larger bezel that has the manufacture logo on it. Commercial panels have virtually no bezel and no logo on the front. This feature is especially important when you want to place multiple panels next to each other to create a larger screen. The smaller the bezel, the more continuous the image is. If you put two residential tv’s together, there will be a large void on the image between the two screens and it does not look as nice. You want your business to be perceived in a certain way, and by using the correct digital screen, you will portray the right image to your potential clients.

Even though it is tempting, you should never use a residential television anywhere in your office space. You might save a little bit of money upfront, but in the long term it will end up costing you more.
